AI Revolution: Master the Shift or Fall Behind
The Bottom Line - Newsletter #2
As A.I. looms, concern for job security grows...
The world of disruptive technology is no stranger to us.
From the rise of the internet and smartphones to the recent remote work revolution, technological advancements keep us in a perpetual state of flux.
But now, the pace of change is accelerating.
You may recall missing out on a major trend that took off, rewarding those who seized the opportunity early on.
Fear not because this time...
I present to you THE next big thing:
March 14th, 2023 will likely go down in history as one of the biggest turning points in technology led by the release of OpenAI’s GPT-4.
In case you're unfamiliar, here's a very brief overview of some remarkable GPT-4 capabilities:
GPT-4 scored a 90% on the Bar Exam, an 800% improvement over the previous GPT-3.5 model:
GPT-4 transformed a rough drawing of a website into a functional interactive website - in seconds:
GPT-4 saved this guy’s dog’s life after his vet failed to (not kidding):
#GPT4 saved my dog's life.
After my dog got diagnosed with a tick-borne disease, the vet started her on the proper treatment, and despite a serious anemia, her condition seemed to be improving relatively well.
After a few days however, things took a turn for the worse 1/

Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI states:
"This will be the greatest technology humanity has yet developed.”
Sam also acknowledged the risks stating that he’s:
"A little bit scared of this.”
Shortly after his comments aired on the ABC interview, The Future of Life Institute called for a six-month pause on some forms of AI research in an Open Letter titled: “Pause Giant A.I. Experiments”
The Open Letter led by Elon Musk and high-profile tech leaders cites “profound risks to society and humanity”, further adding: “Should we automate away all the jobs, including the fulfilling ones? Should we develop nonhuman minds that might eventually outnumber, outsmart, obsolete and replace us?
My father has a great line he picked up during his tours in Vietnam:
”You can’t dodge the bullet with your name on it, but you can dodge the ones that say ‘to whom it may concern’.”
We must concentrate on aspects that we can control.
Step One: Understand the Speed of Adoption
As the chart illustrates, ChatGPT reached 1 million users in 5 days.
That’s 15X faster than the next fastest, Instagram which took 2.5 months.
And just to prove the speed to the first million wasn’t a fluke, the time it took ChatGPT to reach 100 million users (2 months) was also 15X times faster than Instagram (2.5 years).
‘Okay, so A.I. is moving faster than anything we’ve seen before. Check.’
Step 2: Know Exactly Where You Stand
Different occupations have different (forecasted) risk profiles:
According to a recent research report published by Goldman Sachs:
“AI systems like ChatGPT could impact 300 million full-time jobs worldwide, with administrative, legal, architectural and engineering roles some of the most at risk” and “approximately 25% of all jobs forecasted to be directly impacted.”
A.I. will touch every profession from janitors to CEOs, with the only variable being by how much.
Be honest with yourself about where you and your business stand.
Step 3: Use & Learn A.I. Tools.
Not avoidance, but embracing and leveraging AI tools is the key to staying competitive in the modern business landscape.
Even if it’s just 5 minutes, you should dedicate time each day to learning.
The simplest on-ramp is to sign up for ChatGPT-4 and start using it daily.
Note: There’s also Bing Chat for Microsoft users, which is powered by GPT-4. Google has ‘Bard’ which is currently objectively not as good, and there are a few others but the main event is taking place on ChatGPT-4.
Business leaders, buy users ($20/pp/mo) for your team and have them testing too - just make sure to establish rules against entering any private or sensitive information - especially client/patient information:
Anybody else wondering how long until their #chatgpt searches get indexed by google ?

To get the best results while interacting with ChatGPT-4 (at a basic level) there are really only two things to keep in mind:
Be as specific as possible
If you’re not getting good answers, ask ChatGPT what it needs to know from you in order to provide a great answer.
The best way to learn is by getting in there and trying it yourself.
THE BOTTOM LINE:
As someone who’s helped businesses navigate three major market shifts over the last 14 years, I can say with no hesitation this one is easily the biggest and fastest moving.
